Cafe Vernonville, Lafayette, Louisiana. The crab and corn bisque with garlic parmegian bread I had here is truly one of the best things I've ever tasted.
My friend Hutch's whole band was on the front porch in the Garden district in NAwlins to greet me after my 9 hour drive from Austin Texas. Hutch is one of the top Mandolin players in New Orleans. Watch for these memorable faces on an upcoming documentary on street musicians. (on MTV or VH1 or something like that. I'll post the details when I find them.)
Whoever said a picture is worth 1000 words grossly underestimated how many things could fit into Hutch's apartment. See how long it takes you to find the empty Ramen noodles box.
My gracious hosts and I start a night on the town at The Club.
My new friend Wayne is a self described hippie from Carbondale, IL . Hutch also calls him the mayor. He actually ran for mayor of Carbondale one year and he recieved 83 votes. Wayne insists that he would have had 84 votes if he had gotten out of bed that day.
We saw an amazing brass band called Rebirth play under a beautiful coper ceiling.
Hutch, myself, and the night were still young relatively speaking, when we relaxed on the couch at some after hours bar. Check out Hutch's uncanny resemblence to my Uncle Bob
